In the midst of a controversy over the usage of animal fat in Tirupati laddoo production, Indian dairy company Amul issued a statement clarifying that it never gave ghee (clarified butter) to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD).

Amul has denied supplying ghee to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) following social media rumours. The company clarified that their ghee is made from high-quality milk in ISO-certified facilities.

Amid controversy over the use of animal fat in ghee at the Tirupati temple in Andhra Pradesh, the Karnataka government on Friday issued a directive mandating the use of Nandini brand ghee in all 34,000 temples.

The tender mandates the supplier to submit a clearance certificate for each consignment of ghee from a FSSAI approved laboratory.

In a statement, Amul addressed social media rumours that claimed the company had been providing ghee to the temple. “We wish to clarify that Amul has never supplied ghee to TTD,” the company said, further stating that their ghee is produced from high-quality milk in ISO-certified facilities.
